About this book

Svetlana Alexievich gathers testimony from Soviet soldiers who fought in Afghanistan and from the mothers, wives and nurses who received them home—often in sealed zinc coffins. Their voices dismantle the official story of international duty, revealing fear, indoctrination, grief and moral injury. Zinky Boys is both an oral history of the 1979–1989 war and a fierce inquiry into how patriotic language transforms young lives into material for a conflict society struggles to acknowledge. This is the Arabic edition published by Mamdouh Adwan Publishing House.
