About this book

At seventy-three, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe falls passionately in love with nineteen-year-old Ulrike von Levetzow. Martin Walser reimagines the poet’s final great romantic defeat and the painful tension between an undiminished imagination and an ageing body—an experience that would give rise to the “Marienbad Elegy.” Originally written in German as “Ein liebender Mann”, the work appears here in an Arabic translation by Samir Grees.
