About this book

Yassin, an intellectual, has been split into two selves: the public figure manufactured by the state and the original person trying to escape that imposed identity. He flees first to his religious family and then to a peace-seeking community pursued by the violent descendants of Cain, yet the state remains larger than every refuge. Khairy Alzahaby’s allegorical novel examines authoritarianism’s power to reproduce compliant identities until the self encounters endless, distorted versions of itself.
