About this book

This anthology brings together work by twenty-one Syrian poets from different cultural and social backgrounds, most of whom left the country after 2011 and now live across the Arab world and Europe, particularly Germany. Without forcing a single judgement or school onto them, We Sift the Steps records an emerging poetry of exile in all its stylistic and generational diversity. The collection is a witness to how displacement alters language at the same time as it alters lives.
