About this book

Sophie Perrin, a restless French woman haunted by sudden grief, and Hanifa Kamal, a defiant Kurdish woman formed by a painful childhood in Aleppo, are joined by an umbilical bond that becomes visible only when Paula travels from Paris to Syria. Moving between East and West, Maha Hassan enters the rituals, traditions and injustices shaping Kurdish life in Syria. The novel examines women’s inheritance, displacement and the hidden connections through which one life continues inside another.
