About this book

On a small rooftop in Homs, pigeon keeper Nabih Wardan builds a warm, strange parallel life with his birds while the city below descends into repression, destruction and displacement after March 2011. Under curfew, the birds still cross a sky without borders—until men in khaki reach upward as well as across the streets. Lyrical and quietly allegorical, the novel sets fragile freedom against the machinery of violence and follows a man’s last passage towards another possible life.
