About this book

A grandmother summons her family to an island for an early celebration of her hundredth birthday. Preparations expose lives caught between love and fear, revenge and resignation, and a past that refuses to release them. The final volume of Matute’s Los mercaderes trilogy moves from endings toward beginnings and from the margins toward the hidden centre. Originally written in Spanish as “La trampa”, the work appears here in an Arabic translation by Ali Ibrahim Ashqar.
