About this book

Mosab Alnomairy’s poems move between crowded cities and villages made vulnerable by war. Urban residents try to recover nature on balconies after becoming gears, hammers and briefcases; meanwhile, farmers, harvesters and drivers die in rural battles so that produce can continue to reach city shelves. Clear-eyed and quietly ironic, the collection exposes the hidden dependencies between centre and periphery, modern comfort and distant violence, while preserving the star’s greater brightness beyond the city walls.
