About this book

Mario rejects the life of a fisherman and becomes postman to the only person on his route, Pablo Neruda. Through their friendship, the shy young man discovers metaphor, love and the confidence to court Beatriz, while political change gathers around the exiled poet and his village. Antonio Skármeta’s tender, comic novella brings poetry into ordinary speech and links one man’s awakening to the hopes and catastrophe of Allende’s Chile. Originally written in Spanish as “EL cartero de Neruda (Ardiente paciencia)”, the work appears here in an Arabic translation by Saleh Almani.
