About this book

After fifteen years of military rule, Augusto Pinochet agrees to a referendum. Advertising expert Adrián Bettini, a former political prisoner, is asked by the regime to help secure victory, while the fragmented opposition invites him to imagine a campaign for ‘No’. Antonio Skármeta turns Chile’s historic 1988 plebiscite into a warm, witty novel about fear, creativity and the audacious decision to answer dictatorship not only with outrage, but with a rainbow and the promise of joy. Originally written in Spanish as “Los dias Del Arcoiris”, the work appears here in an Arabic translation by Saleh Almani.
