About this book

Surrounded by death, Inanna meets Sargon, who tells her a mysterious story about his grandfather from another age. Drawing on popular beliefs in reincarnation, Rabee Murshid links private bereavement to Syria’s collective fragmentation. Families on every side name their dead martyrs, while inherited stories return in altered bodies and identities. Tales of Najee is a lyrical novel about grief, memory and the cycles through which violence survives inside communities long after a single death.
