A writer stranded by a snowstorm in northern Sweden accepts the hospitality of Hådar, an elderly man dying of cancer. Torgny Lindgren’s darkly comic, sensuous novel turns illness, hatred and honey into a strange parable about the sweetness people extract from bitterness. Originally written in Swedish as “hummelhonung”, the work appears here in an Arabic translation by Hamid Kashkuli.
