About this book

Surah is a Syrian migrant in Sweden who has been unable to write since war began in her country. Working with an autistic child, she seeks a key to expression while confronting new forms of confinement. Gibran, the child’s father, works in a library and fights discrimination, yet remains trapped in his own dark spaces. Manhal al-Sarrāǧ tells a quiet, formally distinctive story of migration, damaged relationships, creative paralysis and the longing for trust, love and peace.
