About this book

In working-class London during the 1960s, Len drifts into the orbit of Pam, her emotionally absent partner Fred and a group of young men living amid unemployment and social neglect. A shocking act of violence against a baby forces the audience to confront not an isolated monster but an environment stripped of care and responsibility. Edward Bond’s controversial play combines stark realism with a searching critique of poverty, brutality and the possibility of moral survival. Originally written in English, the work appears here in an Arabic translation by Liwaa Yazji.
