About this book

Cristina Fernández Cubas leads the reader along apparently straightforward paths, then overturns every assumption. The women and girls in these stories move between two realities separated by the thinnest line: the stable world and the imagined, desired or delusional one. With precise suspense and emotional depth, Nona’s Room explores sisters, doubles, hidden rooms and the stories people need in order to live, leaving certainty itself as the collection’s most unreliable character. Originally written in Spanish as “La habitación de Nona”, the work appears here in an Arabic translation by Ali Ibrahim Ashqar.
