About this book

Endless ranks of palm trees roll towards the village of al-Ghazala, driven by a human figure determined to destroy it. As residents await catastrophe, buried histories and secret desires emerge from two imaginary villages. Drawing on the lore, beliefs and supernatural tales of rural Egypt, Ahmad Kamel creates a fantastical world that is at once comic and ominous. Mountain of Metaphors explores human helplessness, revenge and the wishes people cannot admit, building a modern mythology from village memory.
