About this book

Set in rural Galicia around the Spanish Civil War, this polyphonic novel gathers violence, desire, superstition and family memory into a chorus of interlocking voices. Cela’s earthy, darkly comic narrative examines how private vengeance and public history become inseparable. Originally written in Spanish as “Mazurca para dos muertos”, the work appears here in an Arabic translation by Ali Ibrahim Ashqar.
