About this book

In a brief, concentrated autobiographical text, internationally recognised Syrian painter Safwan Dahoul considers what can—and cannot—be said about an artist’s life. Rather than offering a conventional memoir, he weighs public recollection against the private conversations and experiences that resist publication. Accompanied by the visual sensibility of an artist preoccupied with memory and trace, I Dream of Being a Painter asks what remains of a life once its countless details have passed.
