About this book

‘A country that asks its children only to die is already dead.’ Sumər Shihādah’s novel follows a generation caught in the violent passage from one historical time to another. As Syria fractures, inherited stories and old certainties are spilled along the way, and survival appears both necessary and morally insufficient. Cornfields is a reflective novel about freedom, justice and the deep internal divisions carried by those who became the barricade between a dying order and an unknown future.
