About this book

Syrian swimmer Yusra Mardini dreams of competing at the Olympics until war reduces ambition to survival. Fleeing Damascus in 2015, she and her sister Sara help keep an overcrowded dinghy moving after its motor fails in the Aegean. The journey leads eventually to Berlin and the Refugee Olympic Team. Butterfly is her first-person account of discipline, displacement and the refusal to let the category ‘refugee’ erase either athletic achievement or individual identity. Originally written in English as “Butterfly”, this is the Arabic edition published by Mamdouh Adwan Publishing House.
