About this book

These stories follow Syrian women living between two rivers: Syria and the countries where war has forced them to seek refuge. Samah Hakawati attends to the small details of divided lives—the losses, border crossings, disappointments and unexpected loves that a panoramic account of war often overlooks. Storytelling becomes a portable homeland for children born abroad, carrying the memory of a place they know through language, family and identity before they have ever seen its stones.
