About this book

Seventeen-year-old Johannes is autistic. His parents recognise his sensitivity and good intentions, while teachers, classmates and neighbours mostly see behaviour they cannot understand. Eager to please others, he repeatedly misreads what is expected of him and becomes vulnerable to manipulation. Anton Marklund’s emotionally direct novel follows a family confronting isolation, school pressure and a crisis that exposes the consequences of judging a young person only from the outside. Originally written in Swedish as “Djurvänner”, the work appears here in an Arabic translation by Hamid Kashkuli.
