About this book

Al-Mughira Al-Huwaidi writes from a war in which the enemy no longer has a clear face and civilians inherit the medals awarded to tyrants. These poems mourn families, homes and a homeland whose violence cannot be organised into heroic categories. Yet their images also insist on grass growing over artillery and love remaining possible after hatred. And the House Was My Seventh Brother is a lyrical reckoning with Syria’s war and the language used to dignify its losses.
